Willows Run Venue Spotlight

Golfers at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games will compete at a course that combines proximity to Seattle, a beautiful setting, and everything they need to be successful.
Willows Run is located in the heart of the Sammamish River Valley and is just a short drive from where the athletes will be housed at the University of Washington.
“For us, this is a great opportunity,” said Willows Run Head Golf Professional Shawn Beattie. “We’re so excited and honored to be able to host all these great athletes and showcase Willows Run in the process.”
Upon arrival, golfers will find two championship courses, a Par 3 course, a miniature golf course, a driving range, a full-service pro shop and the Fire Creek Grill restaurant. Beattie thinks golfers will enjoy competing at Willows Run.
“It’s a player friendly course,” he said. “Golf is tough so we make an effort to make it player friendly so they can come out and enjoy themselves here.”
As for fans who attend the tournament, they’ll find a course that’s easy to access with some terrific viewing areas.
“We have so many areas where you can sit up on a mound and see several different holes. And it’s easy to hop from course to course. One minute you might be watching the action on Eagle’s Talon, then, take a short walk, and you’re watching play on Coyote Creek.”
The 18th holes on both courses end up at greens that feature large mounds perfect for viewing the action. Fans can also see both greens from the patio of the Fire Creek Grill. Beattie can already feel enthusiasm building for the 2018 games.
“We’ve met with both our Men’s and Women’s Clubs and they’re all very excited to help and volunteer. The entire Seattle area golf community will want to come down and check it out because it is such a unique event that we’ve never had in our state. The golf community knows our course so it’s going to be fun for them to watch golfers play shots that they’ve had to play themselves.”
